NORTHEAST GEORGIA - Summer is in full effect, and parts of the country are experiencing record high temperatures. What should you do to stay cool during the heat of the season?
Do you want to exercise outside even when it's hot? Sports medicine experts say work out in the morning or early evening hours when the sun isn't as intense.
If you become overheated and nauseous, find a place in the shade to sit down, you may be suffering from heat stroke. Heat stroke is when the body is not able to regulate its own temperature which can rise in minutes to a life-threatening 106 degrees or more. Symptoms of heat stroke include hot and dry skin, throbbing headaches, dizziness and nausea.
The Centers for Disease Control advise victims to sit down and use a cool compress to cool the body off. Do not give someone with heat stroke fluids to drink. Try to get the body temperature down by applying cool water to skin even if it means spraying them with a hose.
