OAKWOOD - [watch] At first glance, the 2010 West Hall Spartans look to be about one player. Senior quarterback Shunquez Stephens.
The 6'5'' gunslinger has done it all for the Spartans the last few years, but if you ask head coach Mike Newton the 2010 season isn't about Stephens, it's about a team.
The coach says that he has spent the summer getting his players to believe that every individual is important to the team effort.
Last season was a struggle for West Hall. While the team didn't have trouble scoring points, averaging 19 points per game, They did have trouble stopping other teams from scoring. They gave up on average 43 points a game.
Defense is the main area the Spartans must improve on if they are going to reach their team goal of making the playoffs.
Now that they are in the new region 8-AAA, even a third place finish in the sub-region would give the Spartans a chance to play their way into the playoffs at the end of the season.
